Listen, hear.

Here in the swamp, we spend a lot of time thinking of those who have gone before, the giants in the earth. Our ancestors worshiped their ancestors, and doted upon their descendants; and why not? Thrill to the words of Honorable A. H. Whitfield, Mississippi Chief Justice, from a hundred years ago:
"He, whose soul listens, catches, deep as the tone of a cathedral bell heard far across the waters, the message of the mighty past... How sacred such an hour! From their celestial seats our immortal ancestry look down upon us, and our latest posterity invoke us, so to live, so achieve, as to leave behind us in the fabric of our laws, liberties and religion, something eternal, principals and influences, which, blessing intervening generations, shall reach, enrich and make happy even their distant age."
